Diamond Creek Bowling Club has lost one of its characters. John Penman
passed away at Westfield Shopping Centre on 16th January 2010
doing what he liked best - shopping. John is survived by Fay, our
immediate past Club Secretary, and Sue & Mark and their offspring. John
had only just become a great grandfather and for Tayana, he would even
go outside to smoke. That was indeed love.
John started bowling in 1996 at Hurstbridge Bowling Club and in 2001
transferred to Diamond Creek. John has served DCBC very well, including
a 4 year period on the BOM and the RVBA Committee. On the green John was
a formidable opponent, liked especially playing Skip and other
positions, but hated leading. His favourite game was triples. Off the
green he was disappointed with the lack of smoking facilities, feeling
hard done by with no overhang to protect smokers from the sun & rain.
John gained his Super Vets badge in 2008 and had reached 81 years of age.
He hated gardening & Fords, but loved green concrete, tools, (other)
cars and shopping.
Many bowlers attended John's funeral service at Ashton Manor and
afterwards at the DCBC. He was indeed a legend. Our thoughts are with
Fay and family.
Fay, we are sad about the loss of your partner of many years, and our
friend on the green, but do not hesitate to seek any assistance and/or
comfort from your bowling friends.
Listening to all the stories,
John Penman
